How to install and activate Stabicad
Tip: Before you dive into installation mode, keep in mind that requesting your Stabicad licence may take up to two working days — so let the gears spin while everything aligns behind the scenes!
⚙️ Time to install
Step 1: Visit the Stabicad page on Academic Software.
Step 2: Select your preferred software language.
Step 3: Click the Download button to get the installation file.
Step 4: Extract the downloaded ZIP folder located in your Downloads folder.
Step 5: Run the Stabicad installer by clicking the .exe file.
Step 6: Choose your preferred software language and click Next.
Step 7: Accept the licence agreement and click Next.
Step 8: Choose Express installation.
Heads-up! If your computer already has a local SQL database, "Express installation" will not be available. In that case, follow the steps under SQL roadblock: Take the scenic route.
Step 9: Click Install to begin the installation.
Heads-up! If "SQL Server" fails to install, follow the steps under SQL roadblock: Take the scenic route.
Step 10: You can import product lines later. Skip this step by clicking Don't sign in and then Close.
Step 11: Click Finish to complete the installation.
🚧 SQL roadblock: Take the scenic route
Step 1: As a quick detour before starting the advanced local installation, open the folder you downloaded earlier, go to the "SQL Server" folder and run the .exe file to begin installing "SQL Server 2019".
Step 2: Confirm the extraction directory or choose one via Browse..., then click OK.
Step 3: In the SQL Server Installation Center, select New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.
Step 4: Accept the license terms and privacy statement, then click Next.
Step 5: Click Next once the operation completes.
Step 6: Let the installer guide you through the setup — no changes are required.
Step 7: Wait for the installation process to finish, then click Close.
SQL server 2019 is now installed.
Step 8: Open "SQL Server Configuration Manager" via Windows Search or navigate to C:\Windows\System32 in File Explorer and search for "SQLServerManager".
Step 9: Run the SQL Server Configuration Manager installer by clicking Open or the .exe file.
Step 10: Go to SQL Server Network Configuration, then Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. Enable all protocols by right-clicking and selecting Enable. Then close the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
Step 11: You’ve now reached the next phase of the setup process. At this point, you need to download and install "SQL Server Management Studio". This file is available on the Stabicad page via Academic Software.
Step 12: Under Select software, choose SQL Server Management Studio.
Step 13: Select your preferred software language.
Step 14: Click the Download button to get the installation file.
Step 15: Run the SQL Server Management Studio installer by clicking the downloaded .exe file.
Step 16: Click Continue in the Visual Studio Installer.
Step 17: Click Install to begin the installation.
Step 18: Once installation is complete, click Launch to open "SQL Server Management Studio".
Step 19: Select the \SQLEXPRESS server name, tick "Trust server certificate" and click Connect.
Step 20: Click Security, then Logins and open sa.
Step 21: Set a password you'll remember and design it with precision. It doesn’t need to be architectural genius — just something secure and easy to recall. You’ll use it to unlock the next step in your setup.
Step 22: Click Status and set "Login" to Enabled, then click OK.
Step 23: Right-click the server name and select Properties.
Step 24: Under Security, set "Server Authentication" to SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode, then click OK.
SQL Server Management Studio is now fully configured and ready to go.
Step 25: Now that "SQL Server Management Studio" is in place, we’re ready to return to the main event. Run the Stabicad installer by clicking the .exe file.
Step 26: Choose your preferred software language and click Next.
Step 27: Accept the licence agreement and click Next.
Step 28: Choose Advanced local installation.
Step 29: Confirm the default installation folder or click Browse... to select another, then click Next.
Step 30: Select \SQLEXPRESS as the server name and enter the password you set earlier in both "Login for users" and "Login for administrators". Then click Next.
Step 31: Click Install to begin the installation.
Step 32: You can import product lines later. Skip this step by clicking Don't sign in and then Close.
Step 33: Click Finish to complete the installation.
🎫 Grab your licence
Step 1: Visit the Stabicad page on Academic Software.
Step 2: Under "🎫 Grab your licence", you'll find the login details for Stabicad ("loginnaam" and "wachtwoord").
Step 3: Open Stabicad and log in using these login details.
You've now activated Stabicad!
Step 4: To import product lines, request your Trimble Identity account (Trimble ID) by visiting the Stabicad page on Academic Software.
Step 5: Click the Request licence button to request your Trimble ID.
Heads-up! Your access to Trimble products and services is now being prepared behind the scenes. Within two working days, you’ll receive an email to create your Trimble ID.
Step 6: Create your Trimble ID by following instructions in the email you received.
Step 7: Open Stabicad, click Beheren, then Importeren Leveringsprogramma's...
Step 8: Log in using the Trimble ID you created by clicking Aanmelden...
You can now import product lines into Stabicad.
