Online proctoring with ProctorExam:
Remote exams are facilitated by means of ProctorExam. Live surveillance and the recording can be used to check whether fraud has taken place. The exam can be accessed via ProctorExam, the student will receive an email with an invitation.
The student must check the system's requirements in advance by means of a system check. When the exam starts, ProctorExam will check these requirements again, ask the student to identify him- or herself and do a Room Scan to check the exam room. The student will be observed via the webcam and microphone of the laptop/PC, via the camera of the smartphone that is placed diagonally behind the student and via sharing the screen of the laptop/PC. Furthermore, the web traffic will also be controlled during the exam, the plugin will ask the student to close all other tabs before the exam starts and prevents them from opening new tabs until the exam has started, after which it checks them.
The supervisor(s) can see all students and will assess and/or respond to irregularities. After the exam, the supervisor also has access to an overview of the web traffic, a photo of the student and his student card and 3 recordings (webcam, smartphone and screen).
Check 3 days in advance:
We recommend that you prepare yourself well for the online exam. We emphasise the importance of a first check at least 3 days before the exam date so that you have time to resolve potential issues in case they arise. We have formulated 3 checks to be taken:
Prepare and check hardware
Make sure the hardware is functioning properly during the exam so that the exam can take place without any problems. The checklist below can help you with this:
- The laptop/PC must meet the following requirements:
- a working webcam (internal or external), ready for video recording
- a working microphone (internal or external), ready for audio recording
- a working keyboard and mouse or other compatible pointing device
- a stable internet connection: minimum upload speed of 1,5 MB/second
- It is recommended to turn off notifications on the device beforehand to avoid distractions during the exam
Install the latest version of Google Chrome on the laptop/PC
You also need to have a charged mobile device (phone or tablet) with operating system Android 5.1 or higher or iOS 10.0 or higher.
Note: Huawei P30, Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016), Google Pixel 3 and newer are not compatible.
Is the laptop/PC or smartphone/tablet not suitable? Ask someone in your personal network to borrow a laptop/PC or smartphone/tablet that meets the above requirements.

If you cannot find the mail, get in contact with your teacher to receive a second one.
Prepare yourself and the exam room 15 minutes in advance:
- Check the exam information and start time of the exam of the specific course
- Check the lighting: the room should be sufficiently bright. Ceiling lighting is preferred and the light source should certainly not be right behind you
- Clean up the desk or table. Please do not eat anything during the exam. This can cause noise pollution. You may have something to drink. Other permitted resources (such as books, calculator, etc.) will be communicated prior to the exam
- The space around you (closets/walls/ceiling...) may not contain any cheat sheets
- Inform house- or roommates of your exam by hanging a note on the door. You should be alone in the room and are not allowed to leave the room and others are not allowed to enter the room. Any contact with others (in any way) inside or outside the exam can lead to an invalid exam
- Make sure that the laptop/PC and smartphone or tablet can run on power instead of battery during the exam
- Switch off sound sources and/or television during the exam, the room should be as quiet as possible. The use of headphones or earphones is forbidden
- It is not allowed to work on multiple computer screens during the exam, only one screen may be connected to the computer
- Make sure all other programs, internet browsers and apps are closed
- Scratch paper can’t be used (unless stated otherwise)
- If allowed: only use single sheets, show the scratch paper to the webcam at the start and at the end of the exam, both front and back. It is not allowed to copy questions on the scratch paper
- Make sure to visit the toilet before the start of the exam
- Make sure to have the student card to identify yourself
Open the ProctorExam app: the QR code must be scanned with this app.
Start your exam:
To start the exam:
- Go to the mail [You are ready to take your exam] and click on the link in STEP 2.
- ProctorExam will check your device(s) again, ask to identify yourself & scan the room
- You will have to take a photo of yourself and your student card
- You will also have to perform a Room Scan to check the exam room. This will be done by means of the smartphone which must move slowly so that all images are clear. This can be requested again at any time during the exam
Place the smartphone in the stable position diagonally behind you. Place the smartphone horizontally, not upright. Make sure that the screen automatically rotates and that the smartphone is on the charger (see attachment for pictures).
